A Letter from our Director

Erick Isaacson, MD, FAAFP
Family Medicine Program Director

Family Medicine is the foundation of medical care. It’s a specialty in breadth. Every day, Family Medicine physicians see a variety of medical issues requiring a broad base of knowledge and flexibility. It’s a people practice, that when done right, is really about relationships.

For these, and so many other reasons, I’m excited to train Family Medicine physicians. To help them learn, be challenged and, ultimately, to provide strong primary care and improve the health of our region.

Our Program

We are affiliated with the University of Washington, WWAMI Family Medicine network, which is consistently ranked number one in family medicine residency training by U.S. News and World Reports. It is the only residency program at Kadlec and provides all residents with individualized training and mentoring so that they can pursue their highest aspirations as Family Medicine physicians.

Our Residents

We welcomed our first residents in June 2015. We continue to be impressed and excited about the quality of our residents. They bring wide experience and skills, and have set a high standard. Residents partner with medical specialists and hospital staff to provide the region’s highest level of care. Our residents have the opportunity to create their own panel of primary care patients, which may transition with the physician into practice.

Our Faculty

We strongly believe that teaching the “doctors of tomorrow” is a special calling that must be approached with care and dedication. As we put our faculty together, we have been impressed with the regional physicians who desire to be a part of training new doctors. They sought us out, and because of this, we have built a dedicated, passionate team. They bring practice-based backgrounds and have chosen to not only provide patient care but also be teachers, sharing their experience, expertise and their commitment to Family Medicine. Our faculty is dedicated to the mission of teaching residents evidence-based, patient-centered care. I invite you to learn more about this team by visiting the faculty section on this website.

Our Pediatric and Adult Hospitalists will be a valuable part of providing a model for integrating hospitalists and residents in a way that dramatically improves both inpatient care and residents’ educational outcomes. In our Intensive Care Unit, residents will work with award-winning, nationally recognized teams, and will be exposed to cutting-edge medicine, and participate in multiple clinically-relevant quality improvement projects.

Our Staff

A key to the success of any practice is a strong and competent staff. We are fortunate at Kadlec Family Medicine Residency to have such a staff. They are not only skilled, but also dedicated to the educational process and working closely to meet the needs of residents, faculty, and above all, patients.

Our Facilities

Our primary family medicine clinic training will take place in a freestanding, outpatient family medicine center. The clinic uses a cutting-edge “on-stage, off-stage” design to create a calming, productive environment. In addition, rotations will take place at Kadlec Regional Medical Center, a progressive 270-bed, nationally recognized not-for-profit medical center affiliated with Providence Health & Services. It is a regional referral center for Southeastern Washington and Northeastern Oregon. Family Medicine Residency and Kadlec Regional Medical Center, along with numerous specialty clinics, are all within walking distance on the greater Kadlec campus.

Our Location

Our community is ideally situated between three major rivers: the Columbia River, Snake River, and Yakima River, in an area rich with cultural and recreational activities for adults and children. The area is known for having the highest number of PhD's per capita nationwide. This area allows us to attract top-notch physicians who are trained at some of the most prestigious academic institutions in the world. In addition, a regional airport, with connecting flights to anywhere in the world, is an easy 20-minute drive from our clinic.

As the sponsoring medical center, we are strongly connected to the diverse community we serve and reach out beyond the walls of the hospital to positively affect patients in our region. We offer a wonderful training experience and hope that you will consider Kadlec as the way to foster your love, passion, commitment and excitement for family medicine.

Thank you for visiting our website and please don’t hesitate to contact us. We are here to help as you make this important decision.
