Matthew E. Fewel, MD

Dr. Fewel grew up in Bellevue, Washington and attended the University of Washington graduating magna cum laude with a B.A. in business administration in 1990.  He spent several years in the computer industry prior to receiving his Doctor of Medicine with Highest Distinction from the University of Southern California in 1998.  Dr. Fewel received the AMA-ERF Achievement Award at USC as the top medical student in the clinical years.  He then completed a 7-year neurosurgical residency at the University of Michigan, one of the premiere training programs in the country.  In 2003, Dr. Fewel received the Resident Award for Outstanding Research from the Michigan Association of Neurological Surgeons for his work on brain tumor research.  After completion of his neurosurgical training, he established his private practice in Richland, Washington and performs surgery at Kadlec Medical Center.  Dr. Fewel is a published author in several neurosurgical texts and peer-reviewed neurosurgical journals.  Dr. Fewel is married to Misty and has 3 children (Hannah, Ben, and Carter).

Brian J. O’Grady, MD

NEUROLOGICAL SURGERY

Dr. O’Grady grew up in Albuquerque, NM and has degrees in Biology and Chemistry from the University of New Mexico. While attending the UNM School of Medicine he did cancer and stem cell  research for the Veterans Administration. He then completed a six-year neurosurgical residency at the Mayo Clinic. Dr. O’Grady has been in private practice in Austin, Texas since 1993. He was the Director of Neurosurgery at South Austin Medical Center and took part in multiple clinical trials involving stereotactic intracerebral navigation, implantation of chemotherapeutic agents and newer spine fixations, among others.

Dr. O’Grady has extensively trained in skull-base neurosurgery, intracerebral navigation and mapping, and complex spine reconstruction for degenerative conditions. He uses a wide range of technologies to perform less-invasive forms of brain and spine surgery. Dr. O’Grady has also had extensive experience in peripheral nerve surgery.

Debra L. Steele, MD, FACS

NEUROSURGERY

Dr. Steele grew up in Lincoln, NE and earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in the Honors Biology program. She attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center, receiving an M.D. with Honors recognition in the Neuroscience curriculum. She then completed a rigorous six year residency program in Neurologic Surgery at the University of Texas-Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, with a special emphasis on the treatment of cerebrovascular anomalies. Dr. Steele also completed a Surgical Neuro-Oncology fellowship at the prestigious Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, New York.

Dr. Steele has been in private practice since 2005 and is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. She also is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
 

Dr. Steele employs state-of-the-art technologies and techniques for her surgical procedures, including imageguided navigation.

Cheerag D. Upadhyaya, MD, MSc

Dr. Upadhyaya was born in St. Louis and raised in a small town in central Florida.  He attended Emory University and graduated summa cum laude with a BS in Biology. He subsequently received his Doctor of Medicine degree with honors for research at the University of Florida College of Medicine. During medical school, Dr. Upadhyaya participated in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute - National Institutes of Health Research Scholars Program. He then completed neurosurgical residency at the University of Michigan. While at the University of Michigan, he was a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar and earned a Master of Science in Clinical Research. Dr. Upadhyaya also completed a fellowship in complex and minimally invasive spine surgery at University of California San Francisco.

Dr. Upadhyaya holds an adjunct faculty appointment at the University of Washington Department of Neurological Surgery as a Clinical Assistant Professor.

Dr Atwal is a vascular neurologist with special interests in the diagnosis and treatment of Cerebrovascular disease, Uncommon causes of stroke, Carotid disease, Intracerebral hemorrhage, CNS Vasculitis, Carotid/Intracranial Fibromuscular Dysplasia and Intracranial/ Extracranial Dissections.

She has extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of a multitude of neurological conditions such as neuromuscular disorders, peripheral nerve disorders, headaches, dementia, movement disorders, demyelinating disease, epilepsy, and CNS infections.

Dr Atwal performs procedures such as EEG, NCS, EMG, neurovascular ultrasound and lumbar punctures.

Her goals include raising communityawareness of stroke, secondary stroke prevention and stroke risk factor modification.

Dr. Atwal Graduated from The University of British Columbia in Vancouver, British Columbia and Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica, West Indies.

She completed her internship at the University of Illinois.

She completed a neurology residency at the University of Buffalo in Buffalo, NY and a Fellowship in Vascular Neurology at The Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH.

Dr. Tammaa is a board-certified neurologist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy.

Dr. Tammaa evaluates and treats a broad range of neurological diseases including stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, headaches, muscle and peripheral nerve disorders.

Additionally, he performs various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including EEG, NCS EMG, Spinal tap, adjustment of vagal nerve stimulator.

Dr. Tammaa graduated from Damascus University, School of Medicine in Damascus, Syria and completed his Internal Medicine/Neurology Residency at University of Tennessee in Memphis, Tennessee.

He also completed his Clinical Neurophysiology/Epilepsy Fellowship at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Dr. Tammaa is married and has one daughter. He enjoys swimming.

Hui Juan Zhang, MD, PhD

NEUROLOGY

Dr. Zhang is a board-certified neurologist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of multiple sclerosis.

Her clinical interests also include application of neurotoxins (e.g. Botox) to treat various neurological disorders such as cervical dystonia, facial spasm, spasticity and refractory headaches.

Dr. Zhang evaluates and treats a broad range of neurological diseases including stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, headaches, muscle and peripheral nerve disorders.

Additionally, she performs various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including EEG, NCS, EMG, Spinal tap, adjustment of vagal nerve stimulator and deep brain stimulator.

Timothy E. Baldwin, MD

Dr. Baldwin graduated from Colorado College with a BA in Chemistry. He then did graduate work in biochemistry at Rice University, prior to going to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree. He completed a residency in Anesthesiology, doing extensive training in Pain Management, at the University of Washington. He also did fellowship training at Massachusetts General Hospital and the University of Washington.

Dr. Baldwin has extensive training and experience in the evaluation and comprehensive treatment of Chronic Pain through interventional techniques as well as medical management and adjunctive therapies. Since completing his residency, Dr. Baldwin continues to add to his skills through continued training in new pain management techniques.

Comprehensive Interventional Pain Management
The focus of this practice is evaluation and treatment of chronic pain and pain syndromes on a referral basis. This is accomplished through comprehensive treatment including interventional techniques. The goal of therapy is to improve functionality and quality of life.

Interventional Pain Procedures include but are not limited to:
• Diagnostic and Therapeutic Epidural Injections, including all types of Epidural Steroid injections: cervical, thoracic, lumbar and caudal
• Facet (Medial Branch Nerve) blocks and radio frequency nerve ablations/ facet denervation
• Sympathetic blocks for treatment of conditions such as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome and Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy

He pursued postgraduate training at the Mayo Clinic, where he completed an internship in Internal Medicine and a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
