Dr. Kuzis is a board certified family physician who completed his Medical Scientist training at Oregon Health Sciences University in 1999. His scientific research focused on the biology of the nervous system in health, disease and injury. He completed his Family Medicine Residency at Christiana Care Health System in Delaware in 2002. During residency he worked with noted psychiatrist Dr. Mark Maxwell and was able to contribute to Christiana’s research into causes and treatment of depression in pregnancy.
Comfortable with all phases of family medicine, Dr. Kuzis’ many years as a solo physician in a small community have shaped his belief in the power of the Patient – Physician relationship to foster real and lasting health improvements. He views the physician’s role in this relationship to be that of personalized subject matter expert, teacher, advisor and coach in order to “Meet the patient where they are at” and then educate, guide and encourage them as they reach for their personal definition of success.
Not one to stand still, Dr. Kuzis’ resume includes positions as a health care industry executive, business owner, computer consultant as well as collegiate rowing coach and Naval Officer. He joined Kadlec Family Medicine Residency Program to pass on the experiences he gained in these clinical roles to do his part in creating a solid foundation for the next generation of Family Physicians in the United States.
A big fan of balanced life, he relies on his lovely wife Doris, their 3 kids and Rex “The Wonder Dog” to help him keep his equilibrium. An avid outdoors family they can more often than not be found hiking, hunting, camping, skiing and sailing.
