Kadlec Welcomes Third Class of Family Medicine Residents
Kadlec Family Medicine Residency Expands by Six Physicians
Richland, Wash. – Two years ago, Kadlec’s Family Medicine Residency program welcomed its first class of six residents. Six more joined last year and this month Kadlec welcomes its next class of six residents bringing the program to maturity with 18 total residents. The new resident physicians have begun their hospital and clinic rotations as they work towards finishing their medical program. The class are not students; they are doctors who have completed their medical schooling and are on the final stage of becoming an independent practicing family medicine physician - their three year residency.
Kadlec Family Medicine Residency welcomes doctors Alissa Goodwin, Jake Harvey, Joshua Lum, Stanley Sachak, Thomas Sorensen, and Kyle Thomas.
The process of selecting the residents is lengthy and detailed. Over 1000 applicants applied to fill the six spots for Kadlec’s 2017 class. After an extensive interview process to ensure the providers and Kadlec matched in mission and vision, the candidates are submitted for selection. When interviews are complete, the candidates and hospitals rank each other. A national matching process occurs according to how each have ranked each other and the six residents are selected.
The goal is for both the student and the medical center providers to enjoy and learn during the process with the hope that the resident decides to stay in the community and practice after their three year residency is complete.
The residents are helping to fill a backlog need of medical care for the community and have available appointments for new obstetric and pediatric patients.
Kadlec Family Medicine Residency moved into their new location this month at 940 Northgate Drive, Richland. Their phone number is (509) 942-2516.
