Nurse meeting with patient in hospital room

The Beacon Award-winning Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Kadlec Regional Medical Center cares for patients recovering from major surgery, severe illness, or who are medically unstable and need advanced monitoring and intensive treatment. We provide 20 ICU beds and a wide array of sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.

Kadlec was the first hospital in the area to include an intensivist as part of its medical staff. An intensivist specializes in treating seriously ill patients and manages the care of patients while they are in Kadlec's ICU. Kadlec has an Intensivist on duty 24 hours a day. The rest of the ICU staff has also received specialized training to care for our critically ill patients.

The ICU at Kadlec Regional Medical Center cares for patients who are medically unstable and require advanced monitoring while recovering from illnesses or procedures. Conditions include:

  • Major surgery
  • Heart attack
  • Respiratory failure

This list is not all-inclusive; patients enter the ICU for a variety of reasons. These circumstances are often unforeseen, but we are well equipped to treat all patients who require specialized help during their recovery period.

This unit also has expanded patient rooms and larger, private family waiting areas. Kadlec welcomes up to four visitors for each patient between the hours of 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. One visitor is allowed at night. No children under the age of 10 are allowed to visit.
